Bontrup Logistics Selects Fuelre4m Technology for Climate Resilience in Pacific Shipping

Bontrup Logistics, a specialist in bulk logistics and maritime transportation, which ships more than 12 million tonnes of rock products per year, has selected Fuelre4m’s high-efficiency fuel reforming technology to power its bulk carrier, Bontrup Pearl, to support a major climate resilience initiative in the Pacific. This follows a three-month trial of Fuelre4m technology on board the company’s Yeoman Bridge bulk carrier.

Bontrup Logistics Selects Fuelre4m Technology for Climate Resilience in Pacific Shipping

The voyage begins in the United Arab Emirates, a recognised global leader in sustainability and innovation. This underlines the region’s growing role in advancing climate solutions with a worldwide impact.

This vital shipment, departing from the Port of Ras Al Khaimah, provides critical services for the successful delivery of the second 40,000 tonnes of rock armour, for completing the construction on a new 1.8 kilometre sea wall that will protect the vulnerable island of Ebeye in the Marshall Islands, located in the central Pacific Ocean, from future flooding caused by rising sea levels. Its low elevation makes it especially susceptible to rising sea levels and storm surges linked to climate change.

This milestone is a critical step toward enhancing the resilience of small island nations to climate change and exemplifies international collaboration at its best.

Fuelre4m’s innovative fuel treatment technology has proven to deliver environmental and operational benefits without requiring engine modifications. Based on the first performance data from Bontrup Pearl, the company has already recorded positive indications of vessel speed and fuel efficiency. These results build on the trial onboard Yeoman Bridge, which delivered:

  • 44% reduction in NOx emissions.

  • Operational and fuel stability with no disruption to engine performance or operations.

  • Verified thrust and fuel-to-power efficiency improvements, indicating optimised engine performance at reduced engine load.

These results were delivered under real-world conditions, highlighting Fuelre4m’s solution's ability to improve combustion efficiency, reduce maintenance needs, and maintain complete engine reliability.

Sipke de Vries, General Manager at Bontrup Logistics, comments:  “Using Fuelre4m’s fuel technology in our bulk carriers has already delivered measurable gains in fuel efficiency and engine performance, with the full expectation that we will find a significant reduction in fuel consumption. Our goal is to reduce emissions and carbon footprint, which are critical for meeting environmental targets, but also extend equipment life by improving combustion and reducing deposits. Reliability and savings make a real difference in reducing the environmental impact for long-haul operations, especially with self-unloading vessels like the Bontrup Pearl.”

Fuelre4m, a pioneer in cleaner fuel combustion, is rapidly gaining success across the maritime sector. Its proprietary fuel treatment technology optimises combustion without requiring engine modifications, making it a cost-effective, drop-in solution for operators focused on sustainability and performance.

Rob Mortimer, CEO of Fuelre4m, adds: “We are proud to support Bontrup Logistics and other forward-thinking operators with fuel solutions that enhance performance and sustainability. Our fuel technology is designed specifically for the demands of large-scale marine logistics, optimising fuel burn, reducing maintenance, and cutting emissions without compromising power. It is about making every voyage cleaner, more efficient, and future-ready.”

Following the successful Yeoman Bridge trial, Bontrup Logistics is rolling out Fuelre4m’s technology across additional vessels, including the Bontrup Pearl. These efforts are part of the company’s commitment to sustainable shipping and responsible resource transport in remote and environmentally sensitive regions.

Known for its operational excellence and ability to manage complex marine logistics, Bontrup Logistics plays a critical role in global infrastructure development. Its fleet of self-unloading bulk carriers is trusted worldwide for efficiently delivering large volumes of construction materials, particularly in challenging environments like the Pacific Islands.

This project not only underscores the importance of cleaner fuel innovation but also exemplifies the power of international collaboration in building climate-resilient infrastructure where it is needed most.
